Dear friends of The Bishop’s House,

Easter is upon us, and we’ve turned the calendar over to spring. Since our last newsletter, the Fencibles Trust has been working on several projects for The Bishop’s House. We can’t wait to see them come to fruition as the season unfolds.

We are delighted to announce that work on the front verandah will begin within the next few weeks. As with all heritage restorations, the process of acquiring the proper documentation has been time-consuming. Because our architectural firm, Rayside Labossière Inc. of Montreal, is based in Quebec, it needs a stamp from the Ontario Association of Architects before building permits can be issued by South Glengarry Township. Once Rayside’s receives the stamp (and requirements are almost complete), our contractors Ranald and Jason MacDonald will begin work on the verandah. Watch for activity on the site in the near future!

We look forward to seeing you at our 2018 Gala Dinner at the Char-Lan Recreation Centre in Williamstown on Saturday, April 14th, 2018. Highlights will include a delicious dinner by Prestige Catering, an address by keynote speaker Dr. Renée Lafferty-Salhany, and a live auction. Tickets are available now at Auld Kirktown in South Lancaster and at Desjardins Caisse Populaire in Alexandria. Please pay with cash or by cheque payable to Glengarry Fencibles Trust. Cornwall-area folks may contact Brenda or Jim Baxter at 613-931-2022. The hall was filled to capacity for our previous Gala in 2016, so please don’t delay in purchasing tickets. It’s an event you won’t want to miss.

Everyone is most cordially invited to the Glengarry Fencibles Trust’s Annual General Meeting at the St. Raphael’s Parish Centre on Wednesday, April 18that 7p.m. That evening, we’ll present a financial report and an update on plans for The House. Refreshments will be served. Until then, please visit our website often, or contact one of us for information. We love to discuss The Bishop’s House.

See you at the Gala Dinner!

Inez Franklin,

Glengarry Fencibles Trust Secretary
