At the Bishop’s House on Sept. 15 at 1:30, author Ginette Guy Mayer will discuss the three extraordinary Glengarry women featured in her new book.
They are Dorothy Dumbrille, the author; Edith Rayside, Matron and Chief of nurses in WW1; and Annie MacDonald Langstaff who fought to become a lawyer.
Having Annie’s history presented at the Bishop’s House is especially meaningful because her only daughter Sister/Mother Andrea was the bursar at Iona Academy for years. In Montreal, Annie worked in the office of Samuel William Jacobs, KC. He too was a Glengarry native, and represented her in court. (His Jewish family had settled in Lancaster from Poland in the 1860s.)
The book will be available for sale on the day for $20, with all proceeds going to the United Way.
